- Be a very supportive mom.
As a mother you actually have your own dreams for your kids. Like me, I want my daughter to become an accountant someday which is one of my frustrations in life. However when I asked her what she wants to be when she grows up, she answered with all confidence, "Mom, I want to become a judge like Wowo!" So there's nothing else I can do but give her my 100% approval and support. If that's what she dreams for herself, then I'll be at her back to support her decisions all the way until she achieves her ultimate goal.
- Be very patient with your kids.
One challenging trait of becoming a mother is being patient with your children in all aspects. If your kids have done something wrong, do not yell at them instead be calm in solving the problem by sitting and talking with them seriously. Remember to encourage them to tell the truth at all times and not to tell a lie. If a light punishment is necessary, then give what they deserve but explain to them why you have to do something like that.
- Set good example for your kids to follow.
Among the most important thing you should teach your child is how to tell the truth and not to lie. Teaching your kids how to be truthful is fairly easy and that should start from you as their mother. Always model telling only the truth and nothing but the truth and refrain from committing little white lies. Encourage your children to be honest at all times so they won't find themselves in big trouble.
- Be approachable and always be ready to lend an ear to whatever your kids have to say.
Your kids have lots of stories to say and as their mother you're the first person whom they're going to run to to share whatever they have to say. This is where you should become a good listener and at the same time ever ready to share your point of view about your kids stories. Even if you're a working mother, you should always find time to talk to your children and ask them about how was their day at school so you can remain connected to them and get updated about their whereabouts.
- Learn how to say "Sorry".
Though it may seem hard to say sorry, admitting that you've done something wrong is definitely important. And when it comes to your kids, teaching them to say "Sorry" even with the slightest fault is absolutely necessary. To make this easy for your kids, help them realize the wrong things they've done and further explain why apologizing to the person they've hurt is needed.
- Love and treasure your kids more than anything else in this world.
Your kids are the most valuable possession you'll have in your life so treasure them forever. Once you choose to become a mother and raise a kid, you've already sacrificed a lot for them and you should continue doing it for them not only because you love them but they're the only treasure you can call your own.
